As reported by www.cknw.com, a dragon boat carrying 24 female passengers overturned in the region of Barnet Marine Park inside Burrard Inlet in Canada. No major injuries were reported and all boaters had been wearing life preservers. Make sure to always have an emergency plan for those rare instances when your dragon boat capsizes. See the story here.

Dragon Boat Festivals are inherently competitive. Boaters race against the clock and other teams to get to the finish line and achieve their best times. But dragon boating and dragon boat racers often compete against human conditions like cancer and physical disabilities. For example, the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival regularly raises funds for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre's Breast Assessment Centre. Read more about it here. In Singapore, visually-handicapped paddlers race on a team known as Naga Merah. See this article for more info. And there are multiple teams made up of breast cancer survivors, including the Los Angeles Pink Dragons. Dragon Boating is more than just a quest for first place for a single team. Dragon Boating is a mission for enhancement of being and a community of strength.
